FIC Readies the 1stMainboard VA-503+ for AMD K6-2 333 With support for the fastest Socket 7 processor, AMD K6(r)-2 333, FIC’s 1stMainboard VA-503+ affirms its leading position in the Socket 7 market Taipei, 2 July 1998 - First International Computer, Inc. (FIC) today announced the latest revision of its popular 1stVA-503+ supports AMD K6(r)-2 333. The support for the latest AMD’s processor makes the popular 1stVA-503+ undisputed leader in the Baby AT Socket 7 market. "The 1stMainboard VA-503+ makes it possible for the user to continue enjoying the highest level of performance at a moderate cost. The 1stMainboard VA-503+ not only lets the user keep their existing Baby AT chassis but also offers enough DIMM sockets and expansion slots so that the user can enjoy the AMD K6-2 performance while keeping the current PCI graphics card and DRAM modules. Based on the VIA Apollo MPV3 chipset, the 1stMainboard VA-503+ is the world’s first motherboard with 100MHz front side bus (FSB) support. It features 1MB of L2 cache and gives the user a choice of FSB settings (75/83/95/100/112*/124*MHz). The 1stVA-503+, with its large cache and AMD K6-2 processor that makes use of 3DNow!(tm)-optimized games, provides a blistering 2X AGP performance, making the 1stVA-503+ the ideal choice for gamers. A special clock generator makes it possible to run the memory bus at one frequency and the FSB at another. This, in turn, lets the user continue using existing DIMM modules (66MHz) and yet enjoy the real AMD K6-2 333 (95MHz) performance. Many other Socket 7 motherboards do not provide this feature, limiting the benefit of investment in either the processor or memory. The 1stMainboard VA-503+ with AMD K6-2 333MHz (95MHz) support can be identified by its clock generator marking – ICW W127– and shall be available by mid-July.
