NOTE: Wintune97 doesn't show a true reading of the Cyrix
when compared to other chips, I use this program only to compare to other Cyrix
systems. I have tried Wintune98 it's still in a beta stage so I have no comments on
that version.
Here are the results,
I receive allot of E-MAIL asking is it worth going from a Cyrix
6x86 L PR200+ or the Cyrix 6x86 MX PR200
to the Cyrix MX PR233. It is worth it, considering the PR233 has dropped in price to
around $60.00.If your current motherboard supports the Cyrix PR233 I would recommend to do
it, you won't regret it. If your current motherboard is running a L volt PR200 most likely
it will support the PR233 might just need a bios upgrade just to identify the chip on boot
up but the system in most cases will run just fine with out the bios upgrade.If your
current motherboard doesn't support it you can pick a new motherboard up for around $100
or less. So your total upgrade cost would be at the most $170.00 and $70.00 on the low
side. If you had bought the Intel 233 you would have to pay around $200.00 just for the
chip. My system is noticeably faster, just when I thought my system couldn't get any
faster it did. Check out the Wintune 97 scores below they are quite impressive.I
also did a test with the new Wintune98, this is done while being online so more system
resources are being used so the scores are in some area's lower.
UPDATE Wintune 97 and the MII 300 tested at 233MHz 66 bus
and 224 MHz 75 bus, the 66 bus version a little faster.Tested the MII 300 at 262MHz and 75
bus had to up the voltage to 3.2 chip runs great performed around a Pentium 350-400, As a
rule I don't overclock my chips but I have received many E-Mails saying how easy it is to
do with this chip. I don't know if I will keep it at this speed but kinda nice to see it
run like this.So check out the WINTUNE 97/98 scores and compare them to the other Cyrix
scores.
