On June 15, 1998 -- Cyrix Corporation announced the Windows-compatible M II-333 processor. According to Cyrix, MII-333 provides low-cost solutions at high speeds. Currently, the MII-333 processor is priced at $180 in quantities of 1,000. The M II-333 is currently being manufactured on a .30-micron process, and will be transitioning to National's .25-micron process by the second half of 1998. It runs at 250Mhz at 2.5 x 100Mhz. This is the first Cyrix processor that runs at 100Mhz FSB. The MII-333 does not seem to be very well received in comparison to the popular K6-2 300 and the super overclockable Celeron 266 and 300. Judging from my experience with Cyrix processors, I think the processor would be a good buy if you use your computer mainly for word processing and surfing the net. As for playing games, you might consider buying a Celeron and overclock it since it has a better FPU than Cyrix processors. And if you're thinking of using Cyrix to power your NT server, think twice. I met with compatibility problems when using Cyrix P200+ on my ASUS TXP4 before. I hope they have solved this problem by now. I will bring you updates regarding the motherboard support for this new MII-333 and also what kind of FSB and clock multiplier does it run on. Stay tuned.
