Windows 98 includes a new utility, the Version Conflict Manager, or VCM, to keep track of the disabled files and provide a way for users to switch the files back. This was not available in Windows 95. What VCM does is that it replaces new versions of shared DLLs by application softwares by DLL files in the baseline system of Win 98. This would create problems because some of the newer applications that were installed before you upgraded to Win98 are replaced. This would create compatibility issues which would be difficult to debug. I did a test on my home machine and this is what is shown in VCM :
You can try out the VCM by clicking the following sequences : Start button => Programs => Accessories => System Tools => System Information => Tools => Version Conflict Manager.
