Microsoft Plus! 98 comes with a set of useful features that you might want to install. One of them is the Deluxe CD Player. This Deluxe CD Player takes over most of the CD players that you might have installed with Sound Blaster or any other sound cards.
InterfaceFrom the picture above, you can observe that there are the standard buttons like Pause, Stop, Eject, Forward, Fast Forward, Rewind, Fast Rewind, Skip and Track. The Volume knob on the right hand side allows you tone up/down the volume level. As I have mentioned, there is something great about this new product, it is Internet ready! Internet Ready? Now what does it mean by Internet Ready ? If you're on the net and you place a CD (non pirated English or International CDs), Deluxe CD Player will download the information regarding your CD to your local hard disk. It recognises the signature on your CD and send a request to two sites (Click on the Internet pull down menu to see it). It will also indicate to you some of the sites relating to the CD you're playing. For example, when I was playing Kenny G's CD, it shows me the list of song titles and also the associated sites that has more information about other releases of Kenny G's pieces. OpinionsI personally find that this CD player is very much an upgrade from the Media Player that we use in Windows 95. The GUI is easy to use and it is really fun to play with it. My only disappointments is that the two servers on the internet only supplies track names of CDs and sites of interest to English based CDs. I tried putting in some Chinese and Cantonese CDs sang by Leon Lai, Jacky Cheung etc but they are not recognised. What I feel lacking in this version of CD Player is a real time band equaliser similar to the one in WinAMP 1.92 so that you can increase the treble and bass of your CD.
